Art Installation – mixed technique (enamel, acrylic, ink on linden wood, canvas, silk paper), painting, drawing, objects

The installation analyzes the persistence of decorative forms and their role in the temporal stratification of inhabited space. “here they lived” explores the geometry of decorations and their symbiosis with human living, through telling the story of objects that survived their owners. Abandoned, thrown away or forgotten in empty houses, these surviving common objects become mirrors of the past as well as reflections of those who once chose them, bought them, and used them.
By juxtaposing paintings, artistic artifacts and common objects that bear stylistic imprints specific to certain decades, the installation explores how everyday materiality becomes a repository of collective and individual memory. The approach implicitly questions the boundaries between the ephemeral and the permanent, as well as the dynamics between the abandoned object and the latent narrative of human existence. The materiality of new and old creates a multifaceted dialogue between now and then, while the decorative fragments are presented as background witnesses, mediators, parts of the “syntax of the image” that facilitates the viewer’s access to the world inside the box.
In 2023, the installation was (re)configured twice, initially for the ground floor of the Carol 53 gallery, Bucharest, then for the attic of the Apollonia Culture Bank in Brașov
